Fuller Statement on Governor Brown's State of the State Address

Thursday, January 25, 2018

(Sacramento) – Senator Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) released the statement below following Governor Jerry Brown’s State of the State Address:

“As we begin a new legislative session, my focus will be on supporting and promoting legislation that helps everyday Californians earn more and keep more of what they earn.

“Congress is going in the right direction.  They reduced burdensome regulations on businesses and passed tax cuts that were focused on working families and job creators.  As a result, the stock market is at record levels and the rate of unemployment continues to improve.

“Unfortunately, the focus in California has been on a lost election, new taxes and increasing the cost of doing business. This has resulted in the interior regions of the state continuing to struggle with unemployment and paying higher taxes and energy costs.

“Instead of being obsessed with the federal government, we should get serious about addressing California’s challenges. Now is the time to move forward with a plan that reduces taxes, supports small businesses, and provides more retraining opportunities for the unemployed and underemployed.”
