"Very few events in the history of the United States have impacted our country like the events of September 11, 2001.
"The tragic events of that day affected people across our country, are imprinted in our memories, and changed many people’s lives forever.
"On this day each year, we remember the lives that were lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on United Airlines Flight 93. We honor the sacrifices and actions taken by America’s first responders to save lives.
"As the fight against terrorism continues, we must support the men and women of our military. These brave soldiers risk their lives to protect our country from further attacks.
"The families of these soldiers must also be recognized and thanked for their sacrifices. They proudly send their loved ones into service to represent our country and protect our nation from hatred and evil of the worst kind. I stand with these mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, and pray for the safe return of their loved ones.
"September 11th has also become an opportunity to recognize the American spirit.
"This spirit is evident as Texas begins the hard work of rebuilding. While Hurricane Harvey impacted hundreds of thousands of people, displaced families, and destroyed billions of dollars in property, people from around the U.S. have stepped in to assist their neighbors in need.
"California and other neighboring states sent first responders to assist in rescue operations. People from around the U.S. have donated millions of dollars for supplies and rebuilding after the storm. And, business owners have offered important services and resources to the victims of this natural disaster."
